Families in the Silicon Valley face many challenges as they balance multiple responsibilities with a continually rising cost of living. Gateway Community Outreach believes that a changed community is one where people live in safety, health, and wholeness.

Las Casitas is a Section 8 apartment complex with over 200 units located in North San Jose across from Independence High School. Two apartments have been renovated into a community space used to operate programs, including our Family Resource Center.  The Las Casitas residents are predominately immigrants from Vietnam who sometimes feel displaced navigating a culture that is very different from the country the left behind. 

Our Family Resource Center supports over 80 families weekly providing food, clothing, life skills classes, and more at no cost.

GCO operates programs that are focused on building trust, celebrating their culture, and meeting needs that are specific to each community.

 
 
 
 
 

RESTORING HOPE

Homelessness is currently one of the most visible, prevalent issues in San Jose, with many thousands unsheltered neighbors in our community. Through partnerships with Meet the Challenge, CHAM, Village House, and other like-minded organizations, GCO helps meet basic needs of those living in encampments or on the streets, providing meals, clothing, haircuts, and hygiene kits . For homeless individuals hoping to make a positive change in their lives, GCO provides referrals to support them in their next steps to a transformed life.  

Veterans returning from active duty often experience a combination of physical, mental, and social challenges, including depression, PTSD, unemployment, and homelessness. GCO also supplies hygiene kits, handmade quilts, and gift cards to welcome these veterans into their new homes.
