Who God Says I Am

What is it about those people who can walk into a room, and before they even say a word you can feel their presence? Is it them or is it in your mind? They are just so confident. They know who they are because they know whose they are.

Kate Middleton knows who she is and is fully aware of the family she belongs to. Kate is a member of the British royal family and is married to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, second in the line of succession to the British throne. Although Kate Middleton was not born into royalty, she became - by association - Catherine the Duchess of Cambridge and the future queen consort. The Duchess knows where she came from, her current status, and how she is positioned for the future. She resists public pressure and conducts herself in a way fitting to her position. You can certainly tell when she walks into a room.

You can have that same confidence in your identity as a child of God and a joint heir with Jesus. Ephesians 1:4-5 says: “[God] chose us in Him before the foundation of the world” and “we were “predestined to adoption…according to the good pleasure of His will.”  God chose you, not because of anything you did or would do in the future. He chose you because he wanted you. Living in a performance-based culture, this truth can be hard for us to grasp.

But knowing who you are and whose you are affords key benefits (besides being able to confidently walk into a room).

You will understand that you are good enough. God made you and put within you everything you need to be successful in fulfilling His plan for your life. Psalm 139:13-16: (The Voice) “You knitted me together in my mother’s womb long before I took my first breath…You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul….You saw me growing, changing in my mother’s womb; Every detail of my life was already written in Your book.”  He made you perfectly. He did not leave anything out. You can carry this knowledge deep within your soul.

You will understand that you are fully loved. Isaiah 49:16: (NIV) "See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands..."Isaiah 43:4: (NIV) "Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life." 1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”  God demonstrated His love in so many different ways so we can understand just how fully loved we are. God cannot love you any more than He does right now.

You may not be a duchess, but you are a child of the Most High God…a child of the King of Kings. Choose to walk in confidence, knowing who you are and whose you are.
